Public Interest Disclosure

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) is an independent statutory authority that is responsible to the Minister for Education and administered by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Board (the Board).

As the statutory authority, the Board is charged with delivering the functions legislated by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Act 1997 (the Act). The Act prescribes two statutory committees to provide advice to the Board. These committees are the Curriculum and Assessment Committee and the Standards Committee.

The Authority’s functions and activities as outlined in the Act are undertaken on behalf of the Authority Board by staff of the School Curriculum and Standards Division, of the Department of Education (the Department).
The Authority does not accept corrupt or other improper conduct.

The Authority is committed to the aims and objectives of the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2003 (PID Act). The PID Act recognises the value and importance of reporting to identify and address wrongdoing.

The Authority strongly supports disclosures being made about corrupt or other improper conduct. The Authority also strongly supports contractors and members of the community making disclosures about corrupt or improper conduct.
The Authority does not accept any of its Board or Committee members, taking reprisal action against anyone who makes or proposes to make a public interest disclosure.
The Authority will take all reasonable steps to protect individuals from any detrimental action in reprisal for the making of a public interest disclosure.

The Authority is committed to the effective management of public interest disclosures. Under s. 23(1)(a) of the PID Act, the Public Interest Disclosure Officer (PID Officer) is designated as the person responsible for receiving disclosures of public interest information. The PID Officer is also the proper authority under s. 5(3)(h) for dealing with information that falls within the Authority’s sphere of responsibility. In performing these duties, the PID Officer will abide by the Public Sector Commission’s PID Officers Code of Conduct and Integrity made under section s. 20(1).

The Authority is also committed to responding to the disclosure thoroughly and impartially. The Authority will treat all people in the disclosure process fairly, including those who may be the subject of a disclosure.

The Authority will provide as much information as possible to people considering making a public interest disclosure. If considering lodging a public interest disclosure an initial discussion can be arranged with the PID Officer by email to publicinterestdisclosure@scsa.wa.edu.au.
