The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (Authority) is currently reviewing its Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2011-2016. The review will result in a new Plan to guide continued improvement to access and inclusion at the Authority for staff and visitors. The review will focus on access to buildings, facilities, events, services, information, skilled staff and complaint and consultation mechanisms at the Authority.

The Authority would like feedback from our visitors to help us develop the new Plan, so please take the time to complete the survey.

To request an alternative format or way to contribute, please contact us via email at info@scsa.wa.edu.au or phone on +61 8 99273 6392.

The consultation period closes on 13 January 2017.

A summary of the key findings will be shared on this page early in 2017 for those with an interest.  The finalised DAIP 2017-2021 will be available on this page early in 2017.

The Authority could not complete the work on curriculum, assessment and standards without teachers.

Through the support of Principals, the voices of classroom teachers are reflected in all aspects of the Authority’s work in Kindergarten to Year 10.

In 2016, the Authority has worked with teachers across primary and secondary to develop the Judging Standards Materials for Technologies, both Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies; The Arts, including Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts, and to commence development on the Judging Standards Materials for Languages, including Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian and Japanese.

Teachers across primary and secondary have worked with the Authority to review the Judging Standards Materials for English, Mathematics and Science, providing new work samples to validate the revised assessment pointers mapped to Version 8.1 reflected in the Western Australian Curriculum for these learning areas.

Languages teachers across primary and secondary have worked with the Authority to initially develop assessment tasks for schools to implement and harvest student work samples from which to develop the Judging Standards Materials.

Details of the Authority’s work is communicated through the K-10 Circular.

Thank you on behalf of the Authority to all teachers who have worked with us in 2016.

The History materials currently available on the Authority’s website in the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, including the Curriculum, Assessment Snapshots and the Judging Standards Materials will be removed from the website after 16 December 2016.

Humanities and Social Sciences will be implemented in 2017, with first reporting in Semester 1 2017. History is a subject within the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area and the curriculum for History can be found in the year level syllabuses from Pre-primary to Year 10 Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Assessment Snapshots, Assessment Activities and Judging Standards Materials are available for Humanities and Social Sciences, and examples for History, can be found alongside Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business and Geography, reflecting a coherent approach to the teaching of Humanities and Social Sciences in Western Australia.

The Arts Achievement Standards will be placed in the year level syllabuses for each of the five arts subjects: Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts from Pre-primary to Year 10 in December. Teachers from schools across systems/sector have worked with the Authority to provide student work samples to develop the achievement standards, assessment pointers and the annotated student work samples.

Unfortunately the Authority did not receive appropriate work samples for Media Arts. The Interim Achievement Standards for Media Arts from Pre-primary to Year 10 will be validated in Semester 1 2017. The Authority will continue to work with teachers to collect additional work samples to finalise the Media Arts Achievement Standards and Judging Standards materials during 2017. If you would like to assist with this work please contact Mandy Hudson at mandy.hudson@scsa.wa.edu.au

The assessment pointers and annotated student work samples for The Arts will be progressively uploaded from the beginning of 2017. Details will be published in the first circular for 2017.
